The sad part is I'd rather play STO then play "Spreadsheet online/ SpaceScreensaver Online" = EVE HAHA STO only has a month of play in it, but EVE online takes a month just to get to a point where you can play 8 ) * ducks and covers from all the tomatoes being thrown by EVE fanbois!! gate/wait wait wait/gate /wait wait/ gate/ wait wait wait gate/ wait wait wait /gate wait wait wait wait wait planet gate/ wait station Protect yourself from corrupt MMO companies or become their money bleeding sheep, your choice. |

If you keep an eye on Amazon after any release of a product that they over buy they will do these deals on. I have gotten some amazing deals from Amazon in the past due to their overstocking of products. Hell I got season 4 or 5 (can't remember it has been a good while) of Sg1 for 8 dollars one time, but doesn't mean I could go out and do it again. Check back tomorrow when the gold box deal is over and see what it is selling at. |

I agree. people try to deflect the conversation all the time. it is either EVE or WOW anything to turn the conversation from the abortion that STO has become. |

There's an old joke among Star Fleet Battles players, describing what that game portrays: Shipboard life is six months of boredom, followed by six minutes of sheer, stark, screaming terror. SFB is supposed to represent the "six minutes of terror". I think CCP modeled EVE after the "six months of boredom". And before you direct your barrage at me, I've been subbed for about a year and a half. I like it as a sim, but if you want to play a game you're looking for something else most of the time. STO is fine - not great, but fine. You guys need a better hobby than sitting in these forums bitching about a bunch of games you never actually play. |

And back up to $40, nice ONE day sale. www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Online-Pc/dp/B002673XJA/ref=br_lf_m_1000486651_1_1_img |
True enough... but the fact that the 44% slash happened at all is very telling. Just in the simplist supply & demnad outook, somehting that is new and seelling well doesn't need a 50% drop. Even for one day. |

Maybe I missed it, but the fact they haven't bragged about their sales and/or sub numbers tells me all I need to know about how they are doing. I know they said they topped the UK sales chart for a week, but no numbers are given, and week ending March 6th they dropped to 18th on that same chart. I'm wondering if they even sold 500k boxes world wide. |

What they don't sell they can always throw away. Ahhh ATARI, filling landfills with their games since 1982....

The way they announced it though left things open to interpretation and many people assumed that meant they had a million sto subscriptions. They should have some pretty reliable download numbers though so I don't know why they're not advertising that. |

That was a feeble attempt to make people think they sold one million units. If they sold one million units, they would have said so instead of using "accounts", which are free to make. They even had to fudge THOSE numbers because the STO forums only have about 645k members, the other numbers they used to get to one million must have included CO forums members, or they just lied...take your pick. |

LOL, the same way a company will announce they were in the top 100. 'Wonder where they were in that ranking?'

Well, now it's back to 40.00 (39.99) so I think it was just a sale. I actually read some advertising that it was being offered as a one time deal.

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but 44% off the normal retail price 5 weeks into the release is desperate. Bio Shock 2 was released 7 days after STO and I've never seen that title for more than $5.00 off the retail price as of today. 44% off, regardless of the length of sale, is desperation. I guarantee if you put BioShock 2 or similar high-rated title as a 44% off sale today that you would have astronomical sales. This did not happen for STO. It didn't even come up on the radar at popular deal hunting sites like Slickdeals, which is the ultimate scale for popularity/sales. |

This links in the thread show that it was just a one day sale if it wasn't the price would still be lower, but it isn't. Amazon game deal of the day. Marketing an mmo works a tad differently. Bioshock doesn't come with a monthly sub does it... You have already admitted that you wouldn't play ST:O anyway, so what does a ONE DAY deal got to do with anything. |

First, you sound like a STO fanboi. Secondly, you're reading my posts how you want to. I've clearly stated that regardless of whether it's a 1-day sale, a 1-week sale or a permanent price change, the fact that it sliced 44% off of the retail price for ANY GIVEN PERIOD OF TIME is a sign of desperation. Your monthly sub argument is invalid. You are making the assumption that STO has a game worth paying a monthly subscription to play, which it obviously does not. Saying a game is comparable in price point because you can actually play this poorly executed debacle with no additional charge for 30 days is completely irrelevant. |

You admitted you don't play the game and wouldn't if they paid you. So that is your opinion. Other players of the game which I'm sure you'll call fanbois think their is enough of a game to warrent a monthly sub. It's just a bad argument. And who the heck cares other than Cryptic if it is a sign of desperation? It's a damn good deal for the consumer. Sorry but the game isn't going to die six months from now or a year from now. If anything it will find its niche market and keep plugging along. |
