In my opinion Aion is just the same old crap the devs have been churning out for the last few years. There are one or two games out right now that are moving things forward and a lot more to come I hope.
The sooner we move away from games like Aion, WoW, WAR ect ect (insert random TAB target grind/quest fest here) and these sort of games the better. Guys come on Aion is nothing new.
PS Im not trolling, this is my opinion!

Aion was one of the bigger letdowns of 2009 so no it isn't the best mmo out today. Its a pretty and shallow asian grinder. |
Originally posted by Sudowoodoo 1) Its the number 2 mmo in the world already in terms of subscriptions Lol. Then why bother playing other games than WoW? 2) Its making innovations while other mmos stagnate and become repetitive Whoa. No more grind. No more repetitive "kill ten rats" quests. No more frickin'levels. No more crafting the same items for everyone. Gotta try this ga- oh wait!!! 3) The PvP is the best mmos have to offer (especially rifts) What's so special about it that makes it better than every other game with some pvp thrown in? 4) Unmatched character customization Unmatched? Pretty much the same options as in Perfect World or most Cryptic games. 5) Excellent game design and mechanics (gliding, pvp, rifting ect.) Again, what's so excellent about it? It's pretty average. 6) Beautiful environments Again, pretty average compared to most MMOs. And this point is even more personal, as different people might prefer a more cartoonish approach or whatever else. 7) Always something to work for and improve upon Well, that means it's far from being perfect. Games released in terrible conditions have more to work for and improve. 8) Scales well for lower end computers Pretty much every other game has lots of options to tone down for performance, unless we speak of console portings. 9) Rewards hard work and dedication Which other hardcore-based game doesn't? 10) Has more potential than any other mmo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PAM0wr7cZ8 Every game has lots of potential. Kinda same as #7. Either you develop it, or i don't really care about "potential", i'm paying and playing the game as it is live, not as it is in some developer's mind.
|

I and many others don't play a game simply because it's number 1 of subs I could care less till it's not going to close and providing us something to do that is not boring. |

Lawl...I though everyone was past the Aion is our lord and savior deal. Don't get me wrong, I still play it...but everything about this game has been done before, it just so happens that Aion was able to launch polished where as most games launch buggy and without content lately(*cough* AoC, WAR, CO, etc.). True Aion brings nothing new to the table, but this doesn't make it a bad game. The old saying is, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The MMO community screams for sandbox games, but the truth of the matter is that this community has been built by EQ and WoW. UO may have invented the MMO but EQ and WoW brought it to the mainstream. What WoW does and now many other games obviously emulate is what has shaped the industry today. Why do you think the last two sandbox games have been sleeper hits(DFO and MO)? A community such as this shouldn't cry for innovation if they're clearly unable to support games that provide it. Your best bets for MMO's right now are easily WoW and Aion, maybe EVE but that game is NOT very accessible, one of the reasons it borders the line between mainstream and obscurity. So yeah, the opinion here is completely false, but that doesn't mean Aion sucks. |

I'm glad to see that the annoying legion of Aion-haters hasn't died down. Aion's biggest let-down for most folks was that it wasn't the non-cartoony WoW that they wanted, which is apparently a crime. Maybe someday they'll realize that some of us do enjoy the game as it is. <3 |

I am always puzzled by this whole flying is unique and innovative in Aion Meme. CoX had a more comprehensive flying combat system 3+ years before Aion was released AND you can fly everywhere AND had other travel powers you could use in combat as well. Not saying the CoX implementation was perfect for PvP but seriously they did far more innovation than Aion. I mean I liked the flying in Abyss PvP mechanics but I never thought there was anything amazing about it. Seriously they do not even have semi-physics effects like the slide to a stop in CoX, in Aion you are flying with wings and you stop on a dime for the love of Pete! |

I gave Aion a good crack of the whip, but in the end I found it to be a terrible, terrible game.
It was that bad it drove me back to AOC. :) |

I Personally liked Aion a lot, made 3 chars, mastered one, but listen, this game is awesome and i would defend it lately, but to be honest, when you hit 50, theres totally nothing good to do, and you will get bored after few weeks, unless you love PvP and you keep PvPing non stop. i love PvP but even so, with so much lack of PvE game gets obsolete at 50 after few weeks ( completing all lv50 campaign quests, miragent etc.) |

As a disclaimer, I've played CoH (I don't like CoV very much) since it was in open beta. I adore the game, and one of my favorite things in the game for awhile was simply flying about the city. However, their flying system is medicore on a level that is beaten only by WoW. There's nothing at all dynamic about it. You press in the direction you want to go, and you go. You slide for a bit and then come to a stop when you let go. <3 |

To explain some of Op reasons, Aion greatness is subtle. Its pretty world has good vibes. All the small actions/animations/motions are incredible. After playing Aion, others look static, bland and not-as-good-as-you-once-thought. The flying/gliding mechanics is great and real; starting at level10. It is nice to watch noobs hit the wall or drop dead; rare these days though. You can't fight while gliding, a good way to just off a cliff and prolong the fight. There are enough quests, classes and monsters; basically all the basic elements of a standard mmo. Quests have good tales, for those who care to read. Grind quests are noted as repeatable or group. Combat is nicely done too, with up-to-3 skill-chain, stun, evade, shield mode, magic and pet. Monsters behave differently by type, and nicely placed. Some monsters call to others, and others can hide or run away. None of them are out-of-place. Hunting rift invaders is nice, if players would do it more often. It has some stealth/strategy element in it, as oppose to the fortress fight. Temp log is a strategy. There are fans, haters, hackers, bots and trolls for this game. It may not be good enough for some, but it is better than most. |

Too much grinding, fortress sieges are broke, drops are broke too, lack of variation in what to do, environements look good in the technical side but some of them are plainly horrible, example "Heiron" too much for the undeads, and the jungle is quiet unatractive... then Eltnen is just desert, and another somewhat in the middle jungle, only good ones are Poeta and Verteron, then zerg.... what else.... |

3) The PvP is the best mmos have to offer (especially rifts)
You have got to be kidding me, Aion has some of the worst PvP ever, it is extremely flawed and they have made rifting carebare with guards. Dreg is just a training fest and abyss pvp basically a kite fest for ranged classes, forts are zerg fests. WAR pvp was far superior to Aion the only downside to WAR was the server coding and engine were out dated, Guild Wars still to today has the best PvP in any game. |

It's subjective, if he thinks it's the best then to him it is the best. I like it but don't think it is the bestest. Warhammer and Guildwars rank up there.

Two reasons why Aion might be the best game out there today! 1. SWTOR is not out. 2. FFXIV is not out. |

Total agree! I have played AC2, EQ2, FFXI(2 accounts), WOW(2 accounts), DDO, Pirates of Burning Sea, Pirates of Carribean Online, Last Chaos, 9 Dragon, 4Story, Talisman Online, Cable Online, Lotro up to MoM (2 accounts), AOC, Warhammer, DDO Unlimited in these years. Although some of the games are fun to play but people are mmo jumpers, and I am one of the game jumpers like to change for new gaming experiences. Aion is grind fest thats why it best to kill time lifeless and meaningless and watching it play by itself most of the time.

Fact#1. In MMO forums, you're not allowed to say anything good about any MMORPG. The thread will always have the opposite effect since nearly all of the responses will try to argue against you. Fact#2. Flamers flock like turkeys. The internet cannot filter IQ so you can't tell the difference between an intelligent reviewer and a supid parrot just belching out mundane repetitions of what they've heard. Fact#3. Foums need more people to say positive things about games. Sadly, people rarely do because the same 5% of forum trolls will nuke the thread.
