Waiting for Dark Age of Camelot 2 or BP to stop their oil leak, whichever comes first. |
#1 - Latency since any MMO that utilizes any type of chain / combo combat requires a fluid stream of info in order for them to work correctly. I don't have a POS computer or internet connection either and yes, both beta servers are pretty packed. However, I do find myself getting some serious lag spikes that have caused numerous attack chain / combos to fail which could prove frustrating. #2 - Ability bugs which are far and few between, but still there. For example, the Chanters have a defensive mantra buff thats suppose to affect the whole group, but it only affects the caster at the moment. #3 - Imbalanced drop rates between Elyos and Asmodae. Elyos have by far more unique creatures that drop better items than Asmodae. In fact, I don't know of any unique named mobs in Asmodae that drop decent loot. #4 - Crafting criticals seem extremely rare, which would be acceptable if these rare crafts actually reflected their rarity with decent stats. Also, I'm worried about cost effectiveness of crafting as Tier 1 seemed fairly expensive to level up so I can't imagine what higher level Tiers will cost. #5 - Camera option for locked / follow position. However, theres plenty of positive aspects to Aion so far as well such as graphics, sound / music, armor dyes, crafting / harvesting and of course flying combat. That's the issue, Aion isn't a perfect game at all. It's going to have issues for sure, but yeah AIon needs to work on a lot more than that. I suppose the whole definition of the game...but either way if it has a lot of updates, a lot of subscribers, and a lot of...endgame, the game will be fine. |

I have been playing from Europe on the Chinese servers for quite some time now and I never had any lag issues. I think this is quite impressive. I am also playing from Europe on the US beta servers, never had any lag, even with hundreds/thousands of people packed in the starter zones.
So, I would rather suspect some trouble with the internet route your ISP is taking to the Aion servers -> even with lagless Aion servers, if one of the links on your route is overloaded it will make you lag. You can try a traceroute to the Aion server to see where the bottleneck is.
If you are having this problem too often, change your ISP for another one on a different internet backbone or ask your ISP to use another backbone and/or reroute your traffic differently for those destinations.

The lag for the current beta event was definitely noticeable Thursday. It's the first time I've had any lag issues on the NA servers, and the servers where so packed they where bringing up a queue... so needless to say I think they were stressed to capacity.
Generally the game plays very smooth, but I could see how it might have left a bad taste in the mouth of a brand new player. |

Originally posted by Rhoklaw I live in Australia. We have notoriously terrible ping. But I haven't had any problems playing Aion. Over the last weekend, playing almost constantly for 3 days, I experienced only 3 or 4 very brief lag spikes. And performance remained excellent even in areas with a lot of players. It's possible that whatever problems you experienced weren't game related. |

The only real issue I have had so far, is the lack of inventory space. Sure you can upgrade your cubes, but when normal items, quest items and a ton of different crafting stuff is dumped into the same container, then I for one, run out of space really fast. |
